11 MPG. You Are Kidding, Right?

image

As you know, our motto has been “Designed by Law Enforcement, For Law Enforcement” and with our announcement of calling Connersville, Indiana home we’ll add “Built by Americans for Americans!”

Well, the “Designed by Law Enforcement” bit has very much to do with the over 3,500 Carbon Council members from all 50 US States that have volunteered their time, their opinions, their help, and their support to make sure the Carbon E7 is The Machine it is meant to be. As part of our loan application with U.S. Department of Energy under the provisions of Section 136 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, we asked the Carbon Council to provide us some real world data on their actual fuel economy experiences.

As you might imagine, most officers don’t necessarily drive like civilians. The driving pattern sometimes looks like “idle idle idle idle idle idle idle (do this for a couple of hours) then WIDE OPEN THROTTLE then idle idle idle idle……well you get the picture!).

So what was the bottom line average fuel economy? Remember the country has over 450,000 retail passenger cars retrofitted to be police cars that secure our communities across the country.

11 MILES PER GALLON (ELEVEN) – that is not a typo

This is the largest most visible government fleet in our country and in this day in age (it is almost the year 2010) we cannot possibly find this acceptable anywhere in our country. To that end, we are confident that the Obama Administration will seek to lead by example in this arena and drive for a much more fuel efficient fleet of vehicles that secure our homeland.

11 MILES PER GALLON. We have to fix this….now!

MEMO: the nation’s law enforcement fleet consumes an estimated 1.5 billion gallons of gasoline and emits over 14 million tons of CO2 annually; the Carbon E7 will cut that by up to 40%.

Wouldn't some agencies still purchase other types of cars due to the fact that the E7 sticks out like a sore thumb? Or, due to the fact that it is not capable as other vehicles when it comes to off road driving or specialties? Do officers have to sync with the car for the voice command system? How durable is the touch screen display?

It is unacceptable. I have seen worse with a new V6 impala. Hard to believe. I dont think a tiny turbo diesel is the only answer however. I think chevy has some good stuff going for it with the new caprice coming out in 2011. If they refine the 6.0l v8 some more and work everything under a magnifying glass, I dont see why they couldnt get pretty darn good fuel economy from it. The 5.7l Charger actually got much more gas mileage than the crown vic while still being heavier, having larger wheels and brakes to lug around and 118 MORE horses and almost 100 ft/lb. MORE torque.

One thing to remember is that the E7 will weigh only a fract ion of what the current police units do. With a 'programable' 5-6 speed tranny, there cud be selectable 'city', 'suburburb' and 'highway' 'ranges'. The al ternator and AC compressor [if not electric] cud be equipped with planetary drives which pr ovide higher output at 'idle'. Diesels are used to idling for much time without overheating or blowing up. The E7 will be more like a NASCAR racer than a family sedan or taxicab...

First, I had no other way to contact Mr. Li,so I hope this works. My grandson Is Isaiah Easley at Maplewood School. Mrs. MCcann infomed me of your interest in Isaiah's future, and for that I wanted to than you. Isaiah has 30 touchdowns in 7 games, the record was 24,and he has 2 more games. From the 8th. grade down he is the best basketball player in town. He just recently won a county wide mile run at 6min.We talk about trading skills for scholarship. I more input that can help you help him have a successful future. My hope is that in the ead he is a successful businessman like you. Secondly I am a rep. for an EPA registered fuel and oil additive company that will increase MPG and lower emissions up to 20%.I also am a minority business owner providing material handling equipment. There are tax credits for good corporate citizens who utilize minority owmed businesses.I truly apreciate your interest in Isaiah and I hope this gets to you and we can talk further. better have a fast idle timer built in or turbos and engines will be cooked in know time diesels can idle longer only with good lubrication.

regarding the comment about better mileage on the Charger, a detailed, 12 month analysis at a Seattle area PD showed that the average MPG was 8. yeah, 8. that's sad. Carbon Motors's diesel will be better!

I currently am a state trooper and the crown vic averages around 8 miles to the gallon so 11 would greatly improve on nationwide usage.

As a cop the last thing I am concerned about is what kind of mileage my police car gets. I'm out there to protect society, catch and remove crooks from your presence and in the case of the E-7, look really bitchen doing it! This is a police car built around real cops, I would not care if it got 1mpg. When I put my foot into it I want it to go and if I happen to crash it I want to be able to walk away and live to crash another one if my luck is that bad. Law enforcement is a job of reality, facts and evidence, and few guy I've ever worked with are gullible enough to fall for bunk science. The whole hysterical concept of "Global Warming" and "Man-Made Climate Change" are two of the biggest ringers that have ever taken in so many people. There is ZERO evidence of these ridiculous prognostications and when asked to produce some, all the most public proponents could say was, "There is wide-spread consensus among climate scientists." The world as a whole knows they are full of crap yet the media leaves the impression that we are on the eve of destruction. It is crap and I hope to gawd that Carbon Motors never falls for the baseless non-science that c02 is a bad thing. Few of those who scream about c02 the loudest will admit that human beings put billions of tons more carbon dioxide into the air by virtue of breathing alone than all commercial, mechanical and farting cows combined. The environmental radicals have succeeded in driving American manufacturing to other countries, taking jobs. The kooks who vote for these extreme leftist politicians who want us to believe that harmless c02 is killing our planet are also the ones screaming loudest about unemployment, the economy, health care and all the usual pet peeves of the fringe left. Indiana does not yet appreciate what a blessing having the E-7 manufacturing plant in their state will be for blue collar manufacturing jobs. Now if they can keep the UAW out and let Americans work hard like Americans do without trying to make the plant and the vehicle uncompetitive, it will be an awesome addition to an otherwise dreadful place in our nation. I can't wait to see the first of those units roll into our parking lot! Just to show my thankfulness, every day when I'm fueling it with fossil based gasoline, I'll turn toward Indiana and thank God someone actually acted on the common sense he gave us all...

I sincerely hope Carbon Motors has an SUV-type purpose-built police vehicle on the drawing boards. If not, they will miss out on a market nearly as big as the market for the E7. Particularly if they can also adapt the SUV for fire department utility use as well.

I have recently completed a 30 day survey regarding average fuel mileage. The Crown Vic is exceeding 13mpg.

Greg - Carbon Motors will provide a platform with approximately 50 options so that agencies may tailor it to their needs. The voice activated system does not require a 'sync', and the vehicle (including the touch screen) will be ruggedized for use by officers. Harold - thanks for the information. Pat - That is sad! Thanks for the info. Kevin - we can't wait to put one in your hands and let you get through another day on the job. lnthomp - your comment has been noted. Scott - thanks for the info. I guess you guys are running above average. Keep it up!

I too do not believe in the global warming religion that CO2 are bad. I do believe we need to develop our own fuel sources and that relying on the middle east and Hugo Chevez is a security problem for the above reasons I favour fuel efficient vehicles like the Toyota Prius plus it helps the budget of our department getting 35 MPG it has all of the same space and about the same abilities as a Crown Vic or an Impala even compares not to badly against the Dodge Charger it does however require retraining of the officer as most do not drive the front wheel drive vehicle well at high speed it has great crash perameters and is safer than most other squad cars it saves us about one million a year in fuel.

Many of our fleets are mandated to run B20 biodiesel or higher. What is Carbon Motors stance on these Biofuels?

Cali Criminal said:

Global Warming is made up? I guess a dumbass cop in Indiana knows more than PhD's and Nobel Prize winners in Pysics and Chemistry. I say we deny him is E7 and instead use it educate his kids so they don't turn out as stupid as their pig Dad
